What’s in your eco closet?

The master closet in my eco home is pathetic in its struggle for organization.  I struggled with this problem of organizing my closet because finding an eco conscious closet company was non-existent to me.  Even though I was in desperate need of organization, I didn’t want to compromise indoor air quality by using a traditional closet organizer.  About three weeks ago, I found her, and yes I could hear a choir sing when I discovered she existed.  Her name is Lisa Adams of LA Closet Design and she doesn’t know it yet, but she is my new best friend.  Lisa’s closets are beyond amazing to me.  Not only are they beautiful, but they are eco-friendly as well.   I hope someday soon she will come save me and my closet of shame.  So, I ask what is in your eco closet?  My answer would be that I am hoping to put some work of Lisa Adams in mine.

Some of the elements of her eco-friendly design that I love are:

  • Flooring manufactured from materials like bamboo and cork, free of formaldehyde
  • Cabinets and shelving crafted from beech, cherry, and wenge, with woods imported from Germany and held to the strictest production standards
  • All veneers made from materials found in sustainable forests
  • The use of ABC rather than PCB plastics, eliminating dangerous fluorocarbons and outgassing.
  • Low VOC paint on wall, ceiling, and shelving surfaces
  • Incorporation of natural lighting whenever possible (placing shelving near windows, for example)
  • low energy lighting
  • Accessories that encourage organization and efficiency, and adhere to eco standards
